The
Civil Service Commission schedules and conducts examinations for various
classified positions for the City of Massillon.
Examinations are held for the positions of Police Officer,
Firefighter/Paramedic, Laborer, Custodian, Clerk/Secretary, and certain
other classified positions.
In order to be eligible to be appointed to a position,
an individual must take and pass the Civil Service examination for that
particular position. After taking and passing the examination, the candidate
is placed on an eligibility list according to his/her grade on the examination.
When a vacancy occurs, the administration will send a request to the
Commission for names for that particular position. At that time the
names of the top ten candidates are submitted to the appointing authorities
for consideration. Interviews are held by the appointing authorities,
EEO Director, and the department head for that particular position.
